I am faced with a bit of a dilemma,
gang, I can get either the REKAT
carnivore Cub w/stonewashed blade & G-10 scales for about $75 from
www.1SKS.com-or-The SOG "mini" Pentagon for $49 from www.cutleryshoppe.com ; the REKAT I
KNOW is facing extinction (kinda late for the Sifu, which I would've liked with partial serrations, same w/The Carnivore Cub) and when existing supplies are exhausted, they'll be "music"( i.e. GONE!) Your
opines are GREATLY WELCOME!!! I just wish I had the "mammon" for BOTH!
Oh well.

AET ;)

I have a couple REKAT's and two Carnivore Cubs, one with a black handle and one with a green handle. I like REKATs. The designs are interesting, but the fit and finish was a little rough. I like the Rolling lock, the finish work was rough, once the blade tang was polished a little from use it smoothed up. Make no mistake, it will never be as smooth as an Axis lock, but it worked well. The black Cub I have was an EDC for about a year. The green one is a safe queen that no one will probably ever want since REKAT is out of business. I liked REKATs, they just needed to improve their fit and finish.

imho the main neg w/a REKAT now is if ya have lock probs, where do you turn??

I bought a Rekat Carnivore Cub two years ago, but wasn't really pleased with it. It's a cool design, but I found the action to be too rough for my liking. Maybe it would have smoothed out in time, but I just didn't feel like waiting long enough to find out. Too bad, because, with a little more attention to QC, the Carnivore Cub could have been a truly cool blade. Ideally, that knife would have been made by Benchmade; an axis lock Carnivore Cub would be a wonderful thing.

I have a Pioneer II that I really like. It took a while to break in the lock. And, the knife is a little rough, has some sharp edges, and a few features that I don't like. But, overall it is very tough and a good knife.

However, I would not buy another REKAT.

REKAT is no more. There is no warranty. IMHO, the rolling lock was never exactly perfected - and there were some problems with the lock, especially on the SIFU.

The point is, $75 is a bit high for a knife that has no warranty. I don't think you would have any problems with it - but, if you do, you would have no place to turn.

Especially when you can get a better knife for the same price. $75 is enough money to get a BM Griptillian. Save an extra $30 and get a BM 710 or 806.

Spend your money on something else.

Just my $0.02
