REKAT Carnivore vs BM Stryker vs EDI Genisis- which one to buy?

hey guys,

I am a newbie to quality knives ($$$). Up till now I have been mainly a spyderco man.

My dream knife would be a socom(any one really) but it is just not an everyday knife and way out of my price range.

The 3 top contenders that have caught my eye are the REKAT Carnivore , BM Stryker, and EDI Genisis all in teflon and partially serated.

I need your help in deciding which one to buy.

Thanx a lot for any help you can give me.

I, too, am a Spyderco man who also got hooked on BM. I love my Stryker; so much I bought both!

Mine are plain/satin, but the lock up is solid, blade design is excellent; I prefer utility type blades such as wharncliffe (my personal fav), and the Stryker design is as close as BM gets to that. It turns out that it is an excellent design.

One caveat: check the edge condition, if you have a selection of more than one; my Stryker Jr. was as dull as a butter knife from the factory. Nothing Gatco couldn't handle.

Good Hunting!

I owned a Stryker for a while, then sold it as I've moved to custom knives. It was quite a nice knife, but I think for all around use, I'd reccomend a Genisis (II). It has a better desined blade for utility use, and the deep-pocket clip is nice. If you're going for utility-defensive use, I might have to go with the carnivore, but that area is not my specialty, and I'll let someone else discuss the pros and cons of defensive knives.

Don't forget to pay your taxes...they eventually become my knives:)

Definately the Carnivour. It is the best feeling knife I have ever held. I know that is saying alot but its true. It also has the rolling lock.
Here is a great review that compares the Carnivour to some other knives http://bbs.ipass.net/~stringb/Carnivour.html

3 great knives that have strengths and weaknesses versus each other. You don't mention specifically what you want this knife for, other than saying "everyday knife". For that, the Genesis is is my fave of the bunch -- just make sure to check the liner lock test FAQ and make sure the liner lock is sound.

Well, I own the Stryker and Genesis, and prefer the Genesis EDI. It's longer and I just really liked it the first time I held it. Benchmade Stryker is a good knife, but I like the EDI better. Never used the 3rd one...

I had a Stryker and it didn't do it for me so I sold it.
Still have the Carnivour and Genesis I.
Both are "duty" knives with emphasis on function over beauty.
If I had to pick between them, the Carnovour would win.

My guess is that you would find the Genesis the more versatile utility knife. The Carnivore would be the strongest and most reliable, and has some design features that make it excell for some pretty specialised defensive techniques. The Stryker is a great little knife, strong and very ergonomic, and can be had in M-2 steel. Blade is pretty versatile for a geometric.

I can't talk about the Carnivore, but I own a Stryker and a Genesis. The Genesis is what I carry daily, for two reasons. I find the geometric-style blade of the Stryker to be less useful than a blade with belly for the general utility kind of tasks I do. Also, the thickness and saber grind of the Stryker vs the (mostly) flat grind and thinner blade of the Genesis means that the Genesis just cuts better.
