REKAT Carnivour Cub vs. BM 722

Whats the difference between these two knives? The carnivour has a 3.25" blade, so does the 722. The BM has a little bit smaller handle. The blade profile is pretty similar. They're both ATS34 (or the similar 154CM). They both have nifty locks.

Yet, for some reason, the REKAT is $79.99 and the BM is $114 at 1SKS. Is the BM worth the extra money? How is REKATs quality? It seems like a heck of a deal, but no one near me sells them, so I can't handle one before buying.

Thanks!

First, you're talking about the Benchmade 721 (the 722 is a tanto). Other than that, the ergonomics of both knives are very different. Once you get one of each side by side in your hand, they are very different knives, very different feel. The REKAT will fill a much larger hand than the 721. The BM is fully ambi, while the REKAT isn't. BM's fit & finish has the reputation for being a bit smoother than REKAT's. But REKATs have a rep for being bullet proof. Both are good knives with great locks and should last forever. Is the BM worth $35 more? Some would prefer the REKAT even if it cost $35 more.

I might get a Carnie Cub when (if?) they come out in D2, I might never get a 721 (BTW, this has nothing to do with price), but I own 6 BM's and no REKATs until UPS brings my D2 Sifu tomorrow.

Hopefully someone who owns both will chime in here with a comparison.

I don't have the 720, but I do have the Cub.
I must say, the Cub feels like a bigger knife than it is. The handle feels good in the hand. Nice strong grip. The blade cuts like it were bigger, too. This is most likely because of the recurve.

Yes, the BM is probably a little bit more finished, but the REKAT is indeed a tank. Feels good to have it in my pocket. And when used, never feel as if it will unlock(but from what I hear, neither does the BM). However, I have handled one BM with the Asix lock, and I always felt I would accidentally pull back the lock while using it. With my finger, on the off side of the knife.

Either way, I'm sure you'ld be happy. My preference is for the Cub, though. Just wish it were in the D2.

I have both a Carnie Cub and a BM 721, I like both. The 721 is smaller, lighter, smoother opening, and prints less in the pocket. The REKAT is bigger, heavier, fits my hand more securely and as most REKAT's it's dang near "bomb-proof". I understand that a new Cub is coming out which should be lighter. Also agree with Blackwatch's comment about accidently unlocking the Axis lock. I've had a 710 for awhile and never unlocked it unintentionally but it was a concern initially. For me both the 721 and Cub are keepers, but if size and weight are not an issue then I'll slip the Cub in my pocket. Plus the Cub being carbon fiber looks so sweeeet.

The Carnivore Cub has a much more comfortable handle to me. The 720, however, has a much smoother action and is ambidextrious. The 720 also has a blade that would probably be better for hunting than the Cub which has a recurved blade. Since I am not a hunter, I like the Cub's blade better for general utility and edge retention. Overall, the knives are extremely close.

You're right, I was mistaken and meant the 721, not the 722. Thanks for all the information. I think perhaps I'll purchase a carnivour cub, as weight is not a concern.

I have a benchmade axis lock (710) and haven't ever really been concerned about unlocking it during use. The ambidextorous feature would be nice, but I don't think there's alot of times I've needed my left hand to close a knife.

Thanks for the info

You may also want to take a look at a REKAT Pioneer II.It is about the same size as the Cub and BM720. It is out of production but you should still be able to find one. I really like my Carnivore Cub, but i have to admit that the Pioneer is a better utility knife. You had the choice of four blade shapes. Just something to think about.
