I am thinking of purchaseing a REKAT Pocket Hobbit. Any comments positive or negative about this knife? This seems to be one of the meanest knives out there and I want to know it the reality is worth the hype. Thanks!

Hiya!
Sorry, I never handled the Hobbit. I'd suggest doing a search in the REKAT Forum: http://www.bladeforums.com/cgi/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&number=22&SUBMIT=Go
or just post this question there.

I know it's based upon Al Mar's Warrior, but is supposedly more user friendy.
I have the Warrior and have to agree that it's a BIG one!

Good luck!

Vampire Gerbil: Nosferatus Rodentus Moderatus; similar to a domestic gerbil, except for the odd accent and little black cape.

I have had several Pocket Hobbits. I am not an expert in such things, but for a self defense folder, I think it would be hard to beat. The handle is very secure in your hand and the lock is first rate. The down side is that it is heavy for everyday carry and REKAT's QC has been questionable (in my opinion).

I owned a Hobbit for a while. Well made and, probably, well suited to its intended purpose. Which is: reverse grip fighting...it was difficult to use in any other grip because of handle and guard design.
But I am not into the martial arts and carry of any knife "without good reason" is illegal here. "Defence" is specifically listed as NOT being a legal reason to carry.
It would take a good deal of imagination to find a "peacefull" use for a Hobbit.

OOPS.....just reread the original post.
I am talking of the Hobbit as mentioned in the subject....not the Pocket Hobbit as referred to in the text.
But I suspect the PH is just as specialized.
