I am in love with a dead woman.... God help me. But I love REKAT Carnivores.

I just found out about them about two weeks ago and then found out they have been out of business for quite some time.

Just my luck to fall in love with a knife from a dead company.

I have several folders and I will put any of them against my new Carnivores.

They may not be silky smooth, but they are great felling in my hand. Just like a nice lady or a great cigar, my carnivores are nice to hold.

I just wish I had more money, so I could buy everyone that I come across..... :D :D :D

Well, I know I am probably just spitting in the wind, because this has been hashed out before, but dang I wish they had stayed around.

GOD BLESS AMERICA, may He watch over her and protect her people and soldiers.

I recently lucked into a trade for a Bladeforums model, black blade and red G-10 handles. Seems like an ordinary big, good-looking knife until you pick it up. You're right, it is a great knife to hold, beautifully designed.

Nagels in San Antonio TX. has a Crawford Custom Carnivore on consignment for an asking price of $350.00. It's very nice.

On my gov'ment salary and with the budget cuts, that knife is way out of my price range. And my wife would use it to change my stud status

Thanks anyway. And mores the pity I will be in San Antonio for a C.L.E. conference all next week...:grumpy:

Thanks

The handles on the Carnivore are very comfortable. I really liked the design. I also liked the blade shape. I have several variations of them, including a custom from Pat Crawford. Seems like the rolling lock never quite took off.

The main problem with the REKAT rolling-lock was that it wasn't refined enough. Many times it would develop a drag (mainly with the release slider) that made it stiff and hard to operate. Poor quality control was one of the main reasons for the demise of REKAT knives.

I have owned somewhere around a dozen (or more) REKAT folders (including 4 Carnivores and a couple Carnivore Cubs), and when you (I) got ahold of a good one, it was an excellent knife.

I had heard at one time that Benchmade bought the rights to the rolling lock. There was some discussion at the time about whether they would use the rolling lock or shelve it so no one else could use it.

They had some interesting models. The Escalator, the Sifu... at least you can find a Spyderco Gunting instead of a Rekat Escalator.

I bet they never did. They already had the axis lock at the time. Why would they worry about competition instead of just making the best knives they could on their own?

Part of REKAT's problems may have been an imperfect rolling lock production process. Not an exciting prospect to buy into.
