Hey Guys. Just wondering if this is practical for my edc because I would want to use it for food such as slicing apples etc. Is this practical for that use!!

Heck yeah! Can't get a better apple slicer. But don't sell this thing short - it'll slice darned near anything you need sliced! Since I got mine, I've carried it every day and it sees lots of use.

The Pioneer is a great EDC! It comes in several blade styles, locks up solid as a rock and take a beating. I stole my REKAT Carnie Cub back from the wife and she now carries a Drop Point Pioneer. You bought a great little knife.

A Pat on the Back is only a few inches from a Kick in the Butt.

I carry a Pioneer II as my EDC. It does everything I want it to do. My only beef is it's bulk, but that is a minor issue.

You don't hear much about these knives - guess they don't strike people's imagination like a tactical does. For hard use, I certainly feel better using one of these over a liner lock (even a good and properly fitted one). As mentioned, there is a little bulk but, that also gives you plenty to hang onto during hard use. It is certainly up to lesser tasks as well

Stay Sharp,

p.s. Use it a little while as your EDC and post here with your impressions after real world use. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply guys. How does the heft compare to the CRKT KFF? This is a consideration for me thanks.

I am a big fan of the Pioneer II, and one of the main criteria I have for judgeing a good EDC is the ability to quarter and core a crisp apple efficiently. The Pioneer II is ugly, but it is a great cutting tool.

Which model kff? The small or the large? I had the large and the pioneer feels a lot more comfortable in the pocket to me. I don't know if it's thicker than the kff, but one thing's for sure - it's a little brute.

It feels thick and somewhat heavy for it's size, but I think the overall package is worth it. The thing feels like a fixed blade when it's open - it's just heavy duty, man!

I have the small KFF. If I am just going to carry the Pioneer clipped to jeans or khakis will it feel okay? The small KFF's heft doesn't bother me.

One more thing guys. How thick and heavy is the handle? I have a Kershaw talon and that is too thick for my liking. I don't want too beefy of a handle. Also for EDC would you go with the 420HC EDC Darrel Ralph from Camillus or the Pioneer? Thanks for all your help guys.

WOW! I actually just traded an EDC 154cm because the handle was too small FOR a REKAT Pioneer II clip point black blade!! The REKAT does have a beefy handle which is actually what makes if SO great to hold! They really are solid knives!

The Pioneer II is not a heavy knife in my opinion. It is not a lightweight, but not heavy either. To me it carries the same as an AFCK or something similar.
