I have decided to purchase this knife, although I am still interested in purchasing a Buck 110 with BG-42 blade.

Does anyone here own the Pioneer II?

Opinions please!

Thanks!

I have a REKAT Pioneer II, in fact I have several REKATs. The Pioneer II is a tough little knife. The lock is a little gritty until it breaks in, then it gets smoother. I noticed that 1SKS is having a sale on the REKAT Carnivore Cub, you may want to take a look at that knife as well. I haven't had the chance to try out a REKAT Savant yet, but I have heard good things about that model as well. Good knife hunting and let us know what you get. :)

I bought one of these recently from another Forumite. I 've read and seen photos but never handled one. I like it a lot. Its robust and strong. I've read the threads about possible REKAT company problems but my personal experience with their products is good(I also have a fang neck blade). Some time back I posted a thread asking if anyone ever came across the Carn.cub with serrations or combo edge but no luck with that.

I too have one of these knifes. Very robust and a good handfull. I use it as a camping folder mainly because it can take so much abuse. The black coating is only slightly worn and the ATS-34 takes and holds an edge well.

It is great, except for where the clip attaches, around the pivot screw. With only a little turn down to hold the clip in place and a pivot screw that is constantly coming loose (locktight hasn't) it is annoying. Has anybody come up with a cure for this?

YES! Take the pocket-clip off and get a good belt-sheath for your Pioneer. You'll be suprised just how GOOD that knife will feel in your hand without the pocket-clip installed.

Also, the pivot-screw should "seat" better without the thickness of the pocket-clip taking up "thread space"...And a SMALL amount of Loctite "blue" (#242) on the threads should help.

Removing the clip-along that thought I remember seeing photos of the earlier model in a sort of "half" kydex belt sheath. Anyone see these around?

I have a pioneer II tanto point and love it. It is one tough little SOB. It hols an edge very well. Mine has the problem with the pivot screw coming loose also though. The knife just screams "utility". It begs to be used.

I think it IS sort of on the ugly side. What I always say about the pioneer is that "the beauty is in it's use". It performs flawlessly at just about anything I do with it, so I can't complain.
