1) I took the clip off of one, and after adjusting
the tension a bit with the clip gone, the open/close
action feels fine. But it has developed a slight
"rattle" when closed; what is this? The rolling lock
pin sliding back and forth? Something else? Doesn't
do it when open, just closed. Is it coincidental,
or related to the clip removal?

2) How hard are these things to disassemble and (more
importantly) put back together correctly? I'd like
to do a little customization here and there, and
maybe smooth things out a bit. Any gotchas to
watch out for? I enjoy this type of thing, just
want to be careful since the only folder I have
taken apart to this point has been a frame lock and
it seemed childishly easy to deal with.

3) Any longevity concerns with these (e.g. locking
pin spring)? Seems like a very sturdy, tough little
unit.

Thanks in advance for the info.

Don't tell me nobody ever dissected one of these...since the action is a little rough, it seems natural to do so. I just don't want to inadvertently screw up something with a little tiny spring or some such. If that's not a concern, good deal.

I'm going to be watching for any answers as I've got two Cubs and a Carnivore that I'd love to take apart and "clean" up.

The rattle is the stop pin. It's not serious, just annoying. It had nothing to do with the clip. If you remove one scale, you can see the hole that the pin fits in. A drop of crazy glue will quiet it down. Don't use too much or you might lock up your knife.

The only part I ever had fail in mine was the rolling lock spring. I called REKAT and they sent another one free. The knife was my EDC and I used it as such. It took about a year to fail.

Assembly is a bitch. It's hard to explain without pictures, but the basic idea is you hold all of the pieces in the right position as you carefully put them back together. The lock is the hard part as it interfaces with the blade and must got through both liners.

Be careful when "customizing". Especially when working with the areas of the blade and lock that interface. If you polish too much, the lock will not work as well. The tolerances are tight. I took just a touch to much off. It still worked, but you could tell it was not "right". Had I polished any longer, it would've ruined the knife. Your best bet is to let use slick it up.

Thanks! (To medusaoblongata and mtnbkr). My fault on not finding the archived info; should have searched for more than just the Pioneer. In the meantime, I got some BP2000 and applied it where it seemed to make sense, and that appears to have helped. Haven't decided if I should just learn to live with the rattle or try to fix it.
