As I am sure many of you remember my rants to get info on REKAT P.H.'s. I am happy to say that I recently traded one of my fav Greco pieces for a Pocket Hobbit to a very pleasant guy from over here at the forums.

Now, I am not sure what you remember from my testing in the past...but I beat the heck out of certain knives, and then clean them up and carry them everyday...if logical. So...here we go...

This puppy is one intimidating piece. Its only purpose in my collection will be for training/personal defense and as a conversational piece. Although, testing showed that it proves quite capable of doing ANYTHING I would ask from any of my survival folders.

Blade is ATS-34, and for some reason, like all my REKATS, I am able to put an extremely tough, and sharp edge on it. Leather, rope, plastic, and aluminum proves to be no problem. However, I did get snagged once while trying to tare through a Nylon belt. The flesh test reveals no suprises, leaving a clean, deep gash with little or no pressure applied. The serrations on the back of this blade are NUTS! They ripped through EVERYthing pretty well...Nylon, paracord, leather boots, jeans, and soup cans...although I did wreek havoc on the blade finish. I would def look to this piece as a Number One folder option for being out in the bush.

With out a traditional spine to leverage off of, bone cutting wasn't as easy as it was with my carnivore or pioneer. However the blade design facilitated easy dressing of a big turkey for X-mas Eve dinner.

Side wack test left the knife as sturdy as it was, as did the mild spine test I was able to perform, avoiding the snagging of the serrations. The serrations actually remind me of my old CR Aviator, which is now in the able hands of my Navy Pilot buddy, down south somewhere...they do not do anything GREAT...but do everything WELL.

Handle is typical REKAT...G10 over SS which offers a very sturdy setup for their AWESOME Rolling Lock Mechanism...I no longer test this lock-up...Why Bother! It just works! And if it ain't broke...why fix it!

There are finger grooves in the handle that offers TREMENDOUS purchase while in all grip styles imaginable with this design... I used to like straight-hold, with my thumb along the spine of a short blade, but with this knife, and its tremendous re-curve, I just go with a reverse grip...VERY INTENSE.

Knife is smooth, and was clearly taken good care of...something I have come to take for granted from forum members. I will take my DREMEL TOOL to the blade base for just a little polishing...Doubt it will make much difference though...the White Lightening used to lube this baby has worked it way all the way into all the important areas...thank god! It's truly awesome when properly deployed. I am hoping some of my rather "eccentric" Navy buddies trained for such things will be able to show me a thing or two about efficiently calling upon this knife to protect myself.

Pommel is also an important feature to me, for should I find myself in a position where I do not wish to draw steel, a good tough pommel to a hip bone or rib usually can work wonders!

My rek...for self defense, the only other thing I have EVER owned like it was my CS Desperado...I highly rek;mnd this one to anyone who can legally own such a knife...

Keep in mind, that a piece such as this draws ALOT of attention to itself, and should remained sheathed unless it is truely needed, and a great deal of practice is required to familiarize oneselft with the spinal serrations...I cut myself a few times in the days I have had it!

Happy Holidays,

remember bob brothers said spine whacking was abuse on the rolling lock - and if ya polish the action, etc ya are altering it, and may negativly affect the lock....thats what bob said right??

Although I own and really dig a bunch of REKAT products, I'd sooner let my 20 yr old brother work on my knives, then send ANY of them in to REKAT. I have had a few unfortunate conversations with the people over there, and although I always have managed to get what I needed, it takes a lot of teeth pulling.

I will say that my PIONEER II began to act funny after the polish job, while my older PIONEER II required a total tune-up, just to keep the stop pins and cross members to stop jiggling in the handle. I was VERY angry, not that the knife was screwed up, heck, stuff happens, but I was upset with the fact that REKAT refused to answer my calls for advice, and also went as far to clearly state that should I open up the knife in any way, shape, or form, I would be voiding the warranty. This sucked!

Well, luckily, I have NEVER had ANY problems with any of my REKATS. Other then some epoxy on my old Pioneer II, I have only had to sharpen them a few times...

Thank God! I would hate to have to deal with some of those people over there! They are lucky they make an awesome knife!
