Rekat savant for 59.95?

That seems like a good price considering that their availability must be extremely limited. Be prepared for a total lack of customer service, however.

not a bad price but remember that should the rolling lock fail (and do they ever fail, REALLY bad in the sifu, not so bad in the smaller knives, or at least ya dont hear about it as often) ya have no one to fix the thing, no parts available/etc.

if ya want a collector knife, maybe, a edc knife i would pass myself, lots better stuff around for the $$ imho. also while the sifu and pocket hobbit have some collector interest the smaller ones like the savant and others dont seem to have much if any collector interest. i have seen some webistes that had them for around $50 or so and have had them for a while (several years) so they dont sell well, really the sifu was the one to get as far as rekat.

I have 2 pioneer's and a pocket hobbit sitting around in a drawer, all with broken Rolling Lock's. This happened with very little use and also after REKAT went under. I thought the Pioneer was a nice EDC but with the lock troubles and complete lack of warranty\factory repair, I'd be somewhat worried about longevity issues. I know that Benchmade now owns the Rolling Lock, but I doubt they could offer any assistance with the old REKAT pieces. I would love to get my Pocket Hobbit back in action someday since it was a neat folder.

My experience with REKATs and the Rolling Lock is totally differnt - I've never had one fail, and I use a Savant (swept point) or Carnivore Cub every day. Still occasionally carry a Sifu or Pocket Hobbit, but not as much as before because of collector value. Both are rock solid. Makes me wonder how many of the "failed" Rolling Locks were "tuned" by their owners before failure. Just picked up a couple rare left-handed Pocket Hobbits as my experience with the brand is faultless.

Mike,

None of mine were tuned or fooled with in any way. I carried the Pocket Hobbit for awhile and never did anything remotely stressful to it. One day I opened it and was cutting cardboard boxes open and noticed unusual play against the lock. Further inspection determined the blade closed with hand pressure and the lock was pretty much useless. The same thing happened with my 2 Pioneer's, just much later on. On another note a friend of mine has both a Sifu and PH that went back to REKAT for lock failures and they were fixed right up with no problems back when they were still in business. I really like the Pocket Hobbit, but given the idea of using the back of the blade for trapping, etc, I don't trust the lock mechanism at all.

Seems the majority don't care for REKAT's rolling lock. Pity, it's a neat little knife. Guess I'll have to use the dough for a Benchmade.

Benchmade is using the Rolling lock on some of their Red Class knives with great success from what I understand.

well i had 2 fail both sifus and i never did a thing to them, one of them was rarely carried and never inertia opened as i was "taking care of it "so i wouldnt have to send it in for repair, quit locking right anyway. got them both fixed and swapped them off ASAP. if ya have ever looked at a exploded view of the thing ya can see that a very small pin is what locks it, this pin bends/gets bent/whatever and doesnt lock it up correctly. imho its a flawed concept, in a production knife anyway, a pat crawford one would be "ok" probably, but its not good on a large production knife at all imho.

i've never been so dissapointed in a $180 knife. "lock of the 21st century" my rear end.

dont get me started lol.
