I purchased a Barrage 581 a few years back, but found that I didn't really like the assist. Used it a little, got blade play and a non centered blade.
So, there it sat in my collection tool box collecting dust until last week. I finally de-assisted it.
WOW! Wish I had done this sooner. What a difference. Smooth, no play, perfectly centered. It's like I got a new knife.
I was a little skeptical of doing this, but thanks to this forum, with the tips and links to youtube vids. I am now one
very happy camper. I think I will count this a 'new knife' for this month and save some cash.
Big Cheers.

I know, right? I really liked the 581 ever since I saw one and when I finally got it, I was really surprised at how hard the assist fired. It fired even harder than my assisted ZTs and Kershaws which are more associated with the mechanism. Its also why I didn't carry it as often as I wanted to, although it was suitable for dressy occasions, the assist made it somewhat aggressive.

So about a little while back, I deassisted it, and just like you, liked it even more. It's so much easier to open and close 1-handed, and so quiet.
