As a young knife enthusiast 10 years ago, I found BF while doing a search on the Buck/Strider 880 which was my next knife purchase. Ever since then it's been a long ride. After winning my court case when CSU Fresno tried to press charges for carrying that knife on campus, a member here known as Seth Thomas contacted me and took me out for pizza (would have bought me beer, but I was 19). He worked at The Fresno Bee newspaper with my mother. That was my first encounter with someone from our knife community. Because of my love for knives, I have met many people. Last April, I went to my first knife show. Nate3993 was there with his dad. He introduced me to Darrel Ralph, who in turn introduced me to Wally Hayes, Bob T, and Pat Crawford. At around the same time, I contacted a knifemaker from Florida to build a Ti framelock from my Emerson Super CQC7. I now talk to this guy maybe once a week. His name is Reese Weiland. Now, as opposed to 10 years ago, my knife hobby is as much about the people involved as it is about the knives. I've met a few people from the forums such as cj65, STeven Garsson, Trent Rock, and have spoken to countless others over the phone.

Knives are awesome, but please don't forget the people behind the knives. If you have the money, I'd suggest contacting a custom knifemaker. I'm not a rich man by any means and many times I had to pay DDR or Burn on monthly installments, but it was really worth it. When you buy a knife from the maker, not only will you end up with an awesome knife, but also a relationship that you can look back on for the rest of your life.

Great post CM, I have made many friends through knives and through these forums as well. One of my very close friends I met on here as he took me to knifecenter to look at sebenza's. Found out we drove the same car and lived close and have been friends ever since, went to his wedding and he'll be invited to mine.

I have spoke to several makers and members of these and other forums through the phone and its not always about knives. Lots of great people on here and a wealth of knowledge.

Much of my conversations with other folks here are way beyond knives. Politics, religion, morality, and other like things are a common denominator between us all. There is no other community than this where I could send approx $500 to a man I have never met and receive that which he described to a T. We are a giant family. I've made many friends, some of whom I'll prolly never meet in person, on this forum.

Great post, CM. Sounds like we've traveled a similar path, on a similar schedule. ;)

Good post Charlie Mike I mean ####, hope that this response finds you well. Nice post and well spoken/written. I think many on this site share this feeling and experience with you.

Take care

That's a great post CM. I'm still a relatively new member here but I've already met some great people online and hope to meet some of them in person one day. This is a great community.

Great Post.. I am also still very new to this forum but its good to see there are some good people of this forum and stand behind the blade and rights to carry it...

As well as the relationship available with a custom knife maker it is also worth realising that their is also direct contact available from many production knife makers from:
Spyderco
RAT Cutlery
Himalayan Imports
Becker Knife &Tool
etc

Making friends and meeting people has been the BEST part of my knife hobby.
