Last evening i stumbled accross an old flea market....foun some nice folders...but most were overpriced.

i didn't go home empty handed.

I foun an old CASE stockman,

the logo on the blade is
"CASE XX
U.S.A.
....."

And on the back of the blade the number 6375

The shield sais CASE without a circel around it...

After some reading...i found out it's an 1975 stockman in CV steel and darling - jigged "brown bone" - bone imitation- plastic scales.

It had a nice patina on it and a bit of rust....so i degreased it and let it in the electrolise bath for 2 hours... it's shaping up pritty good.

The handle is in great shape and just the big blade was ever sharpened.

The question is...Is there any value to this knife ohter than historical...i payed the equivalent of 8 usd 4 it.

For eight dollars you got your money's worth if it is intact and functioning (new ones sell from $45.00 to $50.00 with Delrin handles). 1970's Case knives are collectible and great users too - sounds like you bought a great user. The 6375 means the knife has bone or Delrin handles, three blades, and is a 75 (large) frame. I love that size knife for a hunting pocketknife (a tad big for me as a EDC). OH

Ps The lack of an oval around the word CASE on the shield was a way of denoting Delrin handles in lieu of Bone in the era your knife was made.

Bob, back in the 1960's bone had become hard to get (for some reason I know nothing about) and Delrin was developed to take it's place. In the 1970's Case began to displace bone with Delrin (thus using the same "6" in the model designation). The "3" was used for Yellow Composition. Luckily for us in the knife collecting fraternity, bone became available again and back into widespread use for better grade knives. The only concession Case made in marking Delrin knives was to eliminate the oval around the word Case on the shield - but that seems to be inconsistent from my observation. OH

The number 6 is not only used for jigged bone, I have 2 with a 6, a jack from '70 and a senator from'80 both with a 6 and synthetic scales.

From W.R. Case College on Cases web page

6 - Bone
Procured from Brazil, the shin bone of the Zebu cattle are the main source of bone suitable for Case bone handle materials.

Jigged Synthetic
Plastic molded covers with a jigged pattern.

Jigged Laminate
Laminated wood with a jigged pattern; such as used on the Folding Hunter.

Yeah...i'm not a fan of traditional folders but it's getting more and more easy to see how so many people are.
I'm gonna try to restore it if i can get some nickel silver for the pins...

Nice looking user. Old Hunter is correct about it being jigged Delrin. I've got a 6235 1/2 Jack from the same era that's definitely jigged brown Delrin with the same shield type (no oval ring around Case).

Value wise, you got a good deal on it but in the condition it is in and being Delrin-handled means it's not especially valuable, collector-wise. Use and enjoy it.

It's cleaned up well and wants work. You got a bargain there, keep your eyes peeled for more!

Best of luck, Will
