Reliable fixed blade?

Been a big fan of Cold Steel for a while just because I think many of their knives are worth the money. Maybe some are pricey but lets not debate that. :P I have been looking for a fairly reliable fixed blade and I came across the Cold Steel Kobun. Thirty dollars on Amazon?! WOW! Such a cheap price for a tactical fixed blade made by a good company. It is fairly slim so that may be why the price is so low, anywho, what do you guys think? Anyone here own a Kobun or have at least handled one? Love to hear from you guys, thanks in advance!

I have one, decent knife for the money. More of light use killin knife than a actual utility tool, but will do ok at food prep or landscaping. The shealth is good, has good retention and comes set up for IWB carry. It has an unfortunate tendency to dull the blade, however. Also, I doubt the long term durability of it's handles.

I own a Kobun. Definitely made exclusively as a weapon. Super light and fast in hand, super sharp out of box, nice and thin with a very comfortable non-slip kraton handle. It's a superb value.

If you want a more utilitarian knife at the same price range, I recommend the Cold Steel Outdoorsman Lite or GI Tanto. I own both and I think they're fantastic.

Stay with the Bushman, for utility and camp knife, also can use it on the end of a pole for a makeshift spear.

When I think reliable I think esee izula or becker there are many more but I don't have tons of fixed blade experience As far as my experience goes the cold steel knives you speak of are not nearly as reliable. ( this post assumes that by reliable you mean gets sharp stays sharp reasonably long, is easy to use and doesn't break )

Thanks everyone I appreciate hearing from all of you, I will look into some of the knives you mentioned, thanks again.

Cold Steel makes some great bargain blades. Don't own a Kobun, but the Bushman series and the GI Tanto are both a steal at $25...and would probably be better outdoors blades than the Kobun.

a slim, compact package.
the cs kobun is a great back-up.
would i use it for anything else, other than?
not likely.

on the other hand
the gi tanto is just the thing
to to take all the punishment
you can possibly think of.
but seriously,
an americanized tanto is clearly
not the best choice
to beat around in the bush...
