Reliable, Reasonably Accurate 1911A1 at a Low Price Point?

I would recommend a Springfield Armory. The price is right, and you can get quite a few extras on your pistol for the same price as a standard Colt. However, I do own, and shoot Colt 1911's, and they are very reliable.

Check out the Mil Spec 1911 at www.springfieldarmory.com

Springfields are nice but I'd get a plain Colt 1991A1. The trigger & mainspring housing are plastic but they will still last for years.

Anything Kimber. You really can't beat it for the price - needs a minimum of aftermarket parts to make perfect.

Springfield isn't bad either - the Mil-Spec models have had good reviews on TFL.

Most of the newer 1991's that I have been seeing have a black coated aluminum trigger, but the MS housings are still composite. The Colt's are fine guns.

if i was lookin for a 1911, i would HAVE to get a kimber, they are much better than a colt imho, and not much (if any) higher. kimber is the only one ready to go out of the box.

It all depends on pricepoint and how much you want to shoot it.

I had a friend who purchased an Auto-Ordanance 1911 which was very reliable with ball and accurate. Accurate that was until about 10K rounds. Considering most pistols are not shot much, durability may not be an issue. This pistol just had too many soft parts in it and he shot it completely out and junked it.

Base model guns from other manufacturers cost more but, will also tend to last on the long haul include Colt (still a little pricey), Springfields (in their 'Loaded' configurations) and, Kimber.

The sweet spot in entry level pricepoints versus quality appear to be the Kimbers at the current time IMHO.

If you can afford more, Les Baer and Rock River both make 'stock' pistols that are in another class altogether.
