Relieved liners?

Ok, here is another thing I should know but don't. What exactly is meant by relieved liners?
My guess - (dont laugh) - In the area where the tang part of the blade folds into the liners, there is more distance between the liners than there is along the part where the blade is, if that make any sense. This Huffman has what I was guessing relieved liners to be.

No, not at all. It was a good guess!

Most of these things you learn over time, or in this case you figure out! Ive been making/collecting for over 23 years and I still learn new things! Its when you stop learning your in trouble ;)
 
Basically you can think of relieved liners as removing some of the thickness of the liners around the pivot pin area to create thin integral washers for the blade tang to ride on - reducing the metal to metal contact area - and if done right, making the knife open and close more smoothly.

...and stopping the blades from developing rub marks from repeated openning and closing:thumbup:
