Relisting an exchange thread

Will there/can there now be an easy way to relist an exchange thread in one piece? In other words, something as simple as changing the date on the original post and then the text and photos all automatically become a new listing?

The only other way I have been able to relist in the past is to start a new thread and then copy and paste text from old to new - and also requiring going back to the photo host site to reload photos. It would be great to be able to just use the old version as is for the new with a click of a button and a minor edit.

Can there be a better/easier way?

Thanks much.

A hopeful,
Ray

Unfortunately there isn't.

Go to your old thread, click Edit, and copy the entire content. Go back to the Exchange subforum, start a new thread, and paste it - that transfers everything as is: bold, italics, underline, text color, and images....then, if you want to make changes (alter prices, add/delete items, etc), it's a simple process before you click submit. (I DO understand that that isn't as simple as you were asking - I have participated on a vBulletin site that had some custom coding for a bump feature, which would basically do what you're asking; but I don't know enough about the workings of this system to know how configurable it is.)

FWIW, I would love to be able to delete old ads, Spark. Any chance for that option becoming a reality. Many people delete prices and images almost immediately (some before the buyer has a chance to complete payment, lol), and quite a few remove the content when they repost, anyway; so deleting the posts would clean things up a bit (though, naturally, there will be people that don't bother).

I can't control edits, but we don't delete posts here. Too much good information!

This will save images too? If so I am very happy with this simple procedure. Never occurred to me to use the "EDIT" mode before copying. Thanks very much for the reply.

I too wish we could delete old sale threads - you would think that would free up lots of data space for BF but Spark has told me no on this question before. Such as it is.

Threads take up almost no disk space. One image upload is around 1000 threads

^ If this is the case; I'd venture to guess that there's an adult themed sub-forum here, that's wasted the equivalent of possibly billions, if not trillions of valuable, non knife related disk space from this forum. o_O Talk about a waste of space! :poop:

That's for directly uploaded images... is it the same for images hosted elsewhere? (my guess is no, but it IS a guess)

Images hosted elsewhere use the other site's storage.
Think about, if they had the same impact, why would all members be able to post unlimited images hosted in that manner while so restricted when it came to directly attached images?

Au contraire! The content there will live on for ages as it's an honest reflection of the human experiment. Yet, all this knife related mumbo jumbo will be obsolete once Light Sa... I mean laser knives are common place. Can't wait for Bladeforums to evolve into LaserBladeForums!

YOU GUYS are mucking up an otherwise informative thread -

Please desist - take your philosophy/sophism elsewhere. (I might chime in with my own thoughts in Wine & Cheese but not here.)

Thank you.

Ignore him or you'll never get the advice you need in this serious section of the forum.

You got solid advice earlier and it is exactly what I do. I host my images on imgur. The links stay solid indefinitely. I simply choose to edit my old sales thread, copy all the text, open a new sales thread, paste, make any changes, add the title, submit, then go make whatever changes to the old sales thread, close, and done. I haven't timed it but I bet I could do it in under a minute, maybe less if well caffeinated. Hope that helps.

That is what I used to do when I would sell stuff. I just edited, copied, and pasted into a new thread after the 2 week window if I had any items that didn't sell. I also added a link to my sigline, it helps as it shows up in every post you make.

That was what I was trying to do. I was trying to post a sales thread using the pictures from an old Trade thread.

How does one copy and paste all the pictures now on a new thread? All it does now is show the individual pictures ..no edit with actual IMAGE bracket links

Looks like I don't have my gold membership .. Was it dropped during the shutdown? Or did it expire during the shutdown? Can't seem to find my membership status or history.

Click on the wrench over paper looking icon to exit Rich Text Editor, then you will see the img brackets...but that step is unnecessary if you do what I said in the 3rd post. Images can be copy/pasted, or deleted simply.

Colubrid, your membership expired back on the 4th

I did go to edit and tried to copy but it only shows the actual individual pictures. Does not allow me to save all.

I finally did locate the wrench icon and was able to copy the picture links. Thanks for your help!

Thanks! I will update.

Wanted to be sure it was not removed by accident before I purchased another.
