I'll miss her! She is headed to Poland. I like the sheath and the little scabbard look to it. Man Being sick this week had me out of the furum but I am back! WhaHoo!!

That's a very nice, and practical design. I have a similar pattern that I've been doing for years. ;)

Nice knife, Bri. I also have a design similar to that one. Yours is like a gigundus Wharncliffe! :D

Nice knife. Funny how popular a pattern can be, I've made about 3 with a similar style to that. Handle was very different but it had about the same bladeshape.

Hey, Mike Hull, who was it that many moons ago tried to develop a style of blade we could call "American"? Was it Loveless who first tried to start the concept of the "American Straight Blade" or something like that? I remember it was discussed in the knife rags and made it to a Knives Annual at one time, I think.

Nice design, Brian! I like that knife.

Yes, Bob Loveless. IIRC, he wanted to call it the American Straight Working Edge, American Straight Edge(ASE), or something close to that. There was an article about that in one of the earlier Knives annuals.

I've always liked that shape, and feel it most practical. I even did a palm skinner in one. Here is a pic of one. It's about 5 1/2" OAL, and the top of the bevel looks like it's not straight, but that's the camera distortion.

Thanks, Mike! Nice little knife. I like pocket-sized straight knives.

The wood is Cocobolo. In general I like wood that has natural oils in it. Less finish work. -I have my skinner pattern cut out MW -

Looks great Brian. Glad your feeling better wish I was. The whole familys got the flu or something. That's an awesome blade design. ;)

Nice knife!
I was wondering, how did you get that subdued finish? Did you blast it with something, or spray someting on it, or what?
I really like it, cocobola is one of my favorite woods.

I got that look by soaking the blade in chlorox for about 5 min. Then using 0000 steel whool and ferric to etch again in cycles. Etched for about 5 min each time. Stop when you like it. Neutralise everything with baking soda in water. Worked out well on this one.
Thanks guys.

Where can I find some ferric to do that? I really like that finish, and it seems like something I could do with my limited shop. Thanks,
~Brian

Very nice! I love Wharncliffe blades! That's one I cannot wait to make myself! Tell me, how tough is it to grind?

Regards and Kudos!
