Remedy for the Izula Black Streak...

I've noticed from the photos a lot of you have the "Izula black streak" going on where the dry plastic sheath galls against your blade at the lock-up point. If you just rub a little mineral oil on your blade and work it into the protrusions on the sheath, by popping the knife in and out a few times, it will correct the problem. Also makes the sheath work better in my opinion. Lasts quite a while and will keep the sheath from wearing quickly.

I do not worry about it,those lil' nubs keep the Izula from falling out in a extreme fall. I mounted a tec-loc on my Izula sheath and it has slight more tension ,so I never have to worry about it falling out...

I do the same thing except I use this:

That looks like a kind of wax, which would certainly be good. Probably last longer and stay where it is put. I use the mineral oil because I sometimes cut food -- assuming my blade is reasonable clean -- and I don't want to eat something that isn't... edible.

A little motor oil won't kill you if you get it on food.

I don't blame you. I don't as yet have the good fortune of owning an Izula so I'm using the goop to prevent the black mark that appears on the orange G10 handles of my RC-3 and 4. The blade doesn't come in contact with the Obenauf's, just the leading edge of the handle.
I don't know how toxic or non toxic Obenaufs is but to smell it you'd be tempted to butter your morning toast with it.:D

Most Obenaufs products are pretty nontoxic, but even my Cajun ass won't eat it.
I use the Obenaufs Propolis Wax for waterproofing all my leather stuff.

Hey, I was kidding about buttering toast with it.:D

People worry WAY too much about petroleum based films of oil on their knife blades. Do you realize how much of this you would have to ingest before it made you sick or killed you? We're not talking about cyanide. I guarantee you that you take in a lot more harmful substances every day and don't even think about it.

True. I just can't get past it for some reason. I'll eat worms and bugs, drink brown water, eat with filth all over my hands but I can't get past putting WD-40 or 3in1 on my blades if their going to see food.

I keep a small rag soaked with mineral oil in an altoids tin in my bag and use it to wipe down my knives and other things that could rust.

I don't know guys....

If I kept that little spot where the sheath rubs on the powdercoat nice, it just wouldnt match the rest of my Izula. Most of the blade surface is WAY more smoothed out than that little stripe.

She gets used.:o
