Nara has had a tough time lately. Heavy rains threatened to wash away his hillside and he has been busy saving his farm but is now back trying to get a few khukuris made for us. Don't ask how long because Nara is still faced with heavy duty farm chores. But at least they are in the works.

By the looks of those 200 year old beams in his shop he has another project ahead of him! Watch your head, Nara!

As I predicted, his oldest son, Surya, has left home to make his fortune in Kathmandu. No pounding hot steel for Surya. The helper is now his youngest son, name unknown.

It's incredible to me the way they squat for extended periods of time. My knees would be killing me! I know that most of it is just a matter of conditioning, but you'd think that they would find sitting-down more comfortable.

I have read somewhere (probably in a National Geographic) that many native people around the world that don't normally use furniture use the squat position as a way to rest. In fact, many times they can sleep that way!

Pakcik Bill --- WOW! ... What a beautiful shot! I guess if you send these two picts (especially the 1st one) to a photographic competition you can win the 1st prize! No joking!

Those picts tells a lot of stories ... story of a Khukuri ... story of a Nepalese family ... story of Nara ... story of a Kami ... story of a poverty ... story of life struggle ... story of survival ... story of fading practices ... story of an old man ... story of a remote place left behind by modernization ... story of young kids ... story of human dream ... etc. etc.

Those picts really touch my heart ... and alhamdu-li-(A)llaah! I am very proud indeed to be one whose name is registered for his blood ... his sweat ... his tears ... his murmurs ... his swears ... his arts ... his Khukuri!

Pakcik Bill ... insyaa-Allaah! I'll named my Khukuri which is made by Nara as "Nara" ... as you mentioned that I wouldn't know when I am going to receive it ... but insyaa-Allaah I'll patiently wait for it!

And down here ... to Pakcik Bill and to Nara ... I would like to say ...

NEPAL HO!

Mohd, I very much admire your ability to see so many things and then to put those things into such eloquent words. I believe you are wise beyond your years and I am proud to know you even through this medium. I truly wish that I could know you in person so we could set and talk over some tea or coffee and really learn to know one
another.
If there were more people in the world like those on this forum the world would be a much better place in which to live.
