Just take a moment and remember all those who gave their lives on this day.

Thanks for the post Jason,

Pearl Harbor was the test for the greatest generation, we could learn from their example.

Never Forget !

I had almost forgotten until I saw the flag at work flying at half-mast.

Truly "a day that will live in infamy." Remember our troops, from then and now. Thanks Gravel.

Thanks to all of them who inspire me and that great watchful young generation of warriors we have serving now. God bless them! Bill

Smoke up for all of them, their loved ones, and those who serve today.

A girl needs a knife...

thx for the thread jason.

my grandparents were living on oahu during this time on the leeward side. my grandfather has told me about having to turn off all their lights at dusk, air raid sirens and drills, and even painting the headlights on their cars black save one small gap.

the attack didnt pass directly over them, though some planes did come in from the windward side i believe. im quite certain the whole island was aware of what was happening.

smoke for all those that served, and those that continue to serve, our great nation.

Never forget! My prayers and gratitude concerning the brave souls that lost their life that day.

It makes me proud that the enemy, at the time, felt the following:

(whichever is accurate... the sentiment is the same. This holds just as true after 9/11.)

Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto is portrayed in the 1970 film Tora! Tora! Tora!, as saying after his attack on Pearl Harbor, "I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve."

In "The Reluctant Admiral," Hiroyuki Agawa, without a citation, does give a quote from a reply by Admiral Yamamoto to Ogata Taketora on January 9, 1942, which is strikingly similar to the famous version: "A military man can scarcely pride himself on having 'smitten a sleeping enemy'; it is more a matter of shame, simply, for the one smitten. I would rather you made your appraisal after seeing what the enemy does, since it is certain that, angered and outraged, he will soon launch a determined counterattack."

Thanks Jason, for your post and your service. It's good to remember those who served and sacrificed.

Great Post. Before my time but not out of mind. Honor and much respect to those before -- and those serving now.

I will. Thank you for reminding us, for their sacrifices and that of their families should never be forgotten, just as those who serve & sacrifice today should be remembered for their honorable & crucial role in protecting our Great Nation always.
