The 1980s remembers you.
I remember the days of bins full of "Survival Knives" in drug stores for $5 each.

Guess what?
This one survived.

My friend has had it since we were kids in the 80s.
He brought it out to the woods...and we survived! :D
(we didn't actually use it though...)

I got my first two knives in the 80’s when I was a youngster. A Wenger SAK in 1985 and a Buck 110 in 1988. Loved them both dearly. I still have a big soft spot for SAK’s.

I got one of the original SAK models when I was young too. Felt like I was MacGyver! :D
All us kids had some sort of SAK or clone; most us us had clones, with blades that would bust your finger nail off while trying to open them. ;)

Haha , I loved MacGyver. I remember those survival knives that you have. Always wanted one. I was in a ninja phase from 1984-1986. Always sneaking past my mother and the cat in my black sweat pants practicing the art of invisibility 🤣 Martial arts magazines and AWMA catalogs littered my room. And they had those survival knives available. They looked so bad ass. Finally got a fixed blade in 1990 (Buck 119). I treasured it.

Better was the early 70's. Army surplus stores were full of military stuff being let go as the war ran down. Bayonets were cheap. So were machetes, ponchos, fatigues, and the like. For a guy on a tight budget making $2.00/hr minimum wage, it was good hunting.

Man, that brings back some memories. I had one just like it. Our county fair used to have stands set up with people selling knives every year. I used to get so excited every time. It was mostly just cheap chinese junk knives, but when you're a kid it was the coolest thing in the world. I don't think they're allowed to sell knives there anymore. I'm sure some uptight parent threw a fit and that was that. People gotta ruin everything.

I've also had a few of these Rambo knives, all had in common that they could not cut a string, let alone some wood 😊

My first "serious" knife must have been an Opinel

I had the rambo RAM400!!!!!
It was a nice japanese made rambo knife. My first knife I actually wanted. Got it at the gun show with my dad right after the movie had come out. Before that I was given a puma folder that taught me a lesson about playing with sharp knives.

I had a Puma folder as well. Got it in my teen years.
Wish I still had it...not sure where it went.

I got mine when I was 5. After I sliced my thumb wide open my grandmother made it dissappear. Lol. To bad. It was a beauty with a beautiful blue aluminum handle.

It's ok my grandfather replaced it with a case knife 😂
Pumas were always nice knives.
Guess it all worked out then. :)
Puma sure did make a good knife.
My dad still has one of the smaller folders, and a fixed blade hunting knife from back in the day. That fixed blade is quite collectable these days.
