Remember to keep your thumb down while sharpening (a little graphic)!

I was sharpening my CPMD2 Spyderco Military (it admittedly didn't really need it), and my wife walked in and struck up a conversation. Being the good listener that I am, I decided to give her some eye contact to let her know that I was listening. This allowed me to truly test the sharpness of the knife...

That sucks. I recently cut my index finger while sharpening a knife (similar situation, distracted by girlfriend). I tried to take a picture of mine but I couldnt get it to quit bleeding long enough for that to be possible.

I had to wait 20 minutes before I could take this picture, and even then it was filled in with blood before I could snap a picture. I had to apply superglue several times before it held. The last time I cut myself while sharpening was touching up a hatchet about 4 years ago, and I sharpen at least my EDC almost every single day.

I also dropped my large Spydeco ceramic whetstone right on my foot when I got cut. The edges are very sharp, I wonder what you sharpen a ceramic sharpening stone with?

That happened to me ~7 years ago. Had a girlfriend over for dinner on New Year's Eve and it was the first time I was using a Spyderco Santoku cleaver-type knife. Was chopping up some dried tomatoes (very tough leather-like tomatoes). She started talking to me and I looked up and paid attention while chopping.
Yup, that Santoku (razor-sharp) went right through my left index fingernail through the nailbed and through part of the tip of my finger.
To the emergency room on New Year's Eve and the doctor put it all back in place, put some gauze on top of the nail and used some medical 'superglue' to hold it all in. Took a while for the nail to grow out, but now you can't even tell that I chopped my finger.

(No, this wasn't a "sharpening a knife and I got cut" story, but still had to share...)

LOL "eye contact". Fella, you are well trained. After 25 years my wife is still telling me that she does not think I am listening unless I am looking at her.

Michael, i did that SAME thing, same spot almost, but with a kitchen knife trying to pry apart frozen hotdogs (dont ask, i dont know what i was thinking at the time). hurt like heck, as the knife isnt really the sharpest
