First off im in the Canadian Forces. So as with most all serving members and most other north americans this day has significant meaning. During ceremony today some young women with children decided it would be okay to disrespect all the veterns andshow her coleen that it is okay to sit during our national anthem. A 99 year old women who relies on a wheelchair stood alone and walked 40 yards unassisted to place a wreath. Such anger went threw me in a flash. I di not consider myself to be a vetern but what previous generations have sacrificed so that we could be where we are and how we live our lives today is the greatest give that could be given, and top watch an able bodied person to sit is outrageous. Sorry

i feel your frustration.there are so many people here in the states that just dont care about the vets or our country.its a very sad time in history:(.i sure hope people wake up before its to late.
god bless all the veterans out there:thumbup:

So take heart not everyone is indifferent or has forgotten. My oldest is going to be in nursing school for the US Army next year following me into the army and my wife into military nursing.

take care and god bless

Did you say anything to them to peacefully and respectfully address/confront that shameful ignorance head on? Not much can be done beyond verbally hitting the nail on the head, especially if it embarrasses them in public enough to not soon forget, but it may be effective enough to remedy the problem in the future.

Sadly, people forget their culture when they are too distracted by everything else to even bother learning it, or worse yet, they choose not to care unless someone makes the effort to teach/remind them. The distractions will have to decrease in order to see that trend reverse, but the chance of that is slim since it is not profitable to those pushing the distractions.
I am only in my fourth decade yet I see a distinct correlation with technology increased or made more accessible in exchange for morality decreased.

My first child will be born any day now and I am both excited and worried at the future he will grow up in, but I have done all I can to minimize that by living where there is no TV or cell phone coverage and life is peacefully fulfilling. I pray I am strong enough to live an example for him that demonstrates the road less traveled instead of the road the majority drives on.

This pic reminds me of one example of the change that has happened just in my short lifetime.

Cricketdave - I know how proud you must be of your children. Give them my best and tell them to value every moment of service.

Sig_Op - We will always have those who take their freedom for granted, but in the famous words of General Dwight D. Eisenhower,
"History does not long entrust the care of freedom to the weak or the timid".

Sig_op, let me say Thank you for your service Son!!! It makes me ill and I would very much like to knock someone ass over tea kettle when they disrespect all that has been done for there liberties. Ungrateful little bast---s

***Hey Al, good post Brother*** No kidding about the hero thing.

As for saying something I was teething with anger noting good would happen if I opened my mouth

A big cheer for the near-centenarian who understands what is really important. I realized long ago that I can't change everyone, so I've concentrated on setting a good example for, and raising four amazing Children who understand the concept of taking responsibility for their actions.

Thanks for your service Sig_Op.

Thanks for posting this Sig_Op, same thing happened to us last summer at my son's military school garrison parade. During retreat and withdrawal of the colors the announcer requested, after warning a 105mm was going to go off, "all please stand and place your right hand over your heart during our National Anthem.....". A father, his familly and dog, sprawled out on their blanket to the rear left of the pass and review line, literally remained in a prone position while everyone else stood, placed their hands over their hearts, and sang. I started to take one step in his direction but my wife grabbed my arm and shook her head "NO".

I guess the same kind of tards exist on both sides of our common border. Thanks for your service Sig_Op, and thanks for your wise words about realizing you can't change everyone Steve O. At least @$%#*s like these have the right to their beliefs because of the price others have paid. People have the right to be pathetic, ungrateful, and ignorant I guess!
