You are still fondly remembered sogguy(Dick Singer). It's hard to believe it's been two years now.

Remember -Only when the last tree is cut, the last fish caught, the last river poisoned will we realize, we can't eat money. Cree Proverb

Yesterday I made note of the date, and a mental note to stop by my old stomping grounds and compose a remembrance thread for Sogguy this weekend. Of course I got distracted and busy working and forgot. As usual Ted came through and covered it, and was kind enough to remind me tonight. 12/7/06 is the day he left us.

I know a lot of you are beneficiaries of his kindness and generosity, and have some of his HI collection as well. I'm sending my yearly bit to Best Friends in his name. Dick really cared about animals, and through that group he'll keep on being with us.

Rest in peace Dick.

P.S. Here's a pic that Andy posted two years ago. One of the last of Dick near his Idaho home.

Though i was never fortunate enough to have known him, i raise my glass in his honor.
Rest in Peace,Sogguy.

thanks guys for speaking up. it does my heart good. he truly affected many peoples lives here and the world over. he believed that it was his responsibility to help where others could not or would not. he was a cut above ; serving in the Mac V SOG and Sigma Roadrunner teams in the mid 60's in vietnam for 3 tours. he was awarded 4 Purple Hearts and turned down 2 others, he was very much a superman. if interested go to you http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvysFHaUCA8&feature=related , http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXL3AXGEmqc&feature=related and see what type of man he was. to make things current for the boards records as well Richard Kieth Singer slipped the surly bonds of this world on Pearl Harbor Day December 7 th, 2006. it was on a mountain overlooking Boise Idaho and watching the sun set where he succumbed to his 2nd war with lymphoma. God bless you Richard. i am heading out here in a bit to keep another promise to you.

P.S. Best Friends animal shelter was his last cause. He loved it there so much that it is where his ashes lay. if inclined support it for you and for him.

Those who are remembered fondly are truly never gone. I'm hoping you're having a wonderful time in your new quarters Dick!  :D

Just when I think there could have been noboby who could love such diverse entities as animals and blades, Ted makes this post.

I wish I had known this man. It is sad not to have communicated with him but at least I know a little of his life story.

To paraphrase Will Rogers "If there are no animals in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went."

and add a members signature "Until you have loved an animal, a part of your soul remains unawakened."

Dick made scans of both of Uncle Bill's books shortly before he passed away. Some of you may not have seen them yet. The PDF files are available on my server's public folder. Just click on the download arrows to get them if you are interested.

Great stuff ted!, thank you.

Do you happen to know if hardcopies are still available? I know in this day and age of computers it's almost pointless. but i would like to have my own copies.

I had no idea he was such a man after my own heart. Kathy and I actively try to rescue and place homeless animals in our community. I am very grateful to learn about the organization that he made his cause. We'll be signing up.

+2x, Mac, the wife and i do that also and do wildlife rescue. We know every Rehabilitator and vet within at least a 50 mile radius...lol. We live near a major college and university which is both a burden and a boon. We end up sending quite a few to Cornell University, As they do a great job of fixing the ones that can be saved and then we can release them. the domestics we cant get the shelter to take , we place ourselves.
You wouldnt believe how many animals we've had to rescue from the dorms at the college though.

I've come to realize I'm at a point in my life where I attend fewer weddings and baby showers and more memorial services.

Good work! (I knew I liked you for a reason. ;) ) Kathy and I are fostering a cat right now, trying to get her ready for a local Humane Society Shelter to take over. (Already took care of vet exam & tests, vaccinations and spaying- we're waiting for her stitches to come out later this week.) We have a tremendous appreciation for the work done by organizations such as Sogguy's favorite- Bestfriends- and will look into expanding their network into our little corner of the world.

There are a lot of great-hearted people in the knife community, and that fact is constantly being reaffirmed to me by threads like this. :)
