Here's Hoss and Little Joe. Hoss isn't quite done but getting closer to being finished all the time. Hoss was looking pretty lonely so I made him a companion, Little Joe...

Hoss was hand forged from a piece of 5160. The blade is 16 3/8" long with a total length of around 23" All the fittings on this knife are wrought iron. The handle came from a very large elk rack.

Little Joe started out as a piece of 1065. The blade on this knife is 8 1/4" with a total length of 13". I made the guard out of a piece of 1018 and the rest of the fittings are wrought iron. It has a Euro crown stag handle.

Ray, those are both exceptional. I love big knives and Hoss is a really handsome, big knife. Little Joe is outstanding. That crown antler is the perfect choice for a handle on this knife.

What do you use to get the wrought iron such a nice brown?

Glad you guys like them. Keith, I bought some plum brown at a gun/knife show a week ago. I think is almost to much, I have since toned it down just a touch. Bruce, I agree with you. If I could capture that look with a half size knife it would be just perfect. By looking at the picture you'd never guess its almost 2 feet long.

Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-haaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!

Thanks for the positive comments! I should have another bowie up tomorrow but I won't say anymore at this time...

The problem with bringing the same dimensions to a knife half the size of the big one is that you would have a handle that is only about three inches long.

Keith, the blade at half size but would make an exception on the handle. I've got the next one together, just waiting on somemore sunshine so I can take a picture of it.
