Please take a moment to remember those brave soldiers who stormed that beach 68 years ago.

Very little mention of it anywhere, maybe I am Lucky to have the National D Day Museum a few miles away.......

We lost more family and friends that day than any other. An awful price to pay, but a huge stride to end the war.

While stationed in Germany 1977-1979 I went to Normandy July 78. One of the most humbling yet proud moments of my life. To see that field of white crosses and stars is something to behold. Knowing full well the pain, agony and then the lucky ones who just died instantly while giving thanks for all of them. They are the real hero's!!!
This below is what is one of the Kohima Epitaphs on the otherside of the world but it's what came to my mind. At that time I was reading The Battle of Kohima.
'When You Go Home,
Tell Them Of Us And Say,
For Their Tomorrow,
We gave Our Today'.

There's hardly ever any mention in the press of this most momentous event. Prayers of thanks for all of those who stormed the beaches and cliffs, jumped into the dark skies, and to the crews who carried them. If you can read this, thank a Teacher; if you can read it in English, thank a Vet.

Thank you for this post.

Many sacrifices in that pivotal event. Lost a great uncle on 6/8 there.

Hope people don't forget the sheer number of sacrifices and what they were for.

lil loopy here they just hit me up with 4 mm or cc or whatever of morphine but great post. my grandfather served in the army air core and his brother was in the battle of the bulge. my uncle was in the airforce stationed in the philipines during vietnam. my dad voluntiered......wow spell check... for vietnam in 68 but lost his hand in a car accident and never went...i was in the army 90-92 during shield/storm but was stationed in germany.

Nothing but respect for those that served in any war .

every time I see saving private ryan and at the end when he asks wife ...tell me im a good man I cry. every time

Jason, I always remember D-Day.

Too many of my family participated ... and a few still rest there, guarding those shores.

Never forget their sacrifice!

The honor, courage and sacrifices of the Greatest Generation has been an inspiration my whole life. They are my heroes.

WWII Vet's being greeted at Reagan National. (Seems to blur my monitor ;))

I always smile when I hear that phrase: The Greatest Generation.

Maybe I'm just an old softie, but to me ... every new generation is the next Greatest Generation. I've got 4 kids, and I think they're all pretty Great.
