I am able to acquire a barely used 1187 without the slug barrel--it has the interchangeable chokes. I'd be primarily using it for deer and maybe skeet once in awhile. Is there an "advantage" to using a slug barrel versus the slugs that are rifled and the stock barrel that it comes with? Thanks in advance for any information on this. Matt

a slug barrels rifling makes for a much more accurate shot to a further distance than a non rifled barrel can make , so it is an advantage yes over a standard barrel/ slug combination.

Not to mention that slug barrels usually have front and rear sights.
