In late October I was given my first deer rifle, a .270 Remington 770. It was just in time, the day before we were going on my first hunting trip. I LOVE this rifle, it feels great, not too heavy and is magazine fed. If any of you have ever hunted, or shot one of these, what do you think of it? (8 pointer by the way)

Its a good gun. I own one in 30-06 and my father has one in .270. They are as accurate as any other gun I own. I have taken several deer and elk with mine and the same goes for my dad's. I have never had any problems with them and they seem to have take the abuse of several years in the field quite well. Over all a well built and reliable gun.

Being based on the venerable 700 and button rifled it should be a shooter. The only weak point Remingtons have is in the extractor but in the light calibers it should never be a problem. My only real objection is the synthetic stock, I know they are more stable but i still like nicely figured wood better...personal choice thing. The .270 is a great whitetail round and serves well for antelope too.

Hard to beat pretty wood!
