I have a 1992 remake of Remington's 1253 Guide knife from the Bullet series.
With the knife open I see a pin (?) inside about center over the backspring? It comes out from one liner & doesn't quite touch the liner on the opposite side.
So, if you can forgive my ignorance, tell me-
what is this pin, bar, and should it run through both liners?
I thank you in advance
Shalom

Only going on what you are saying, sounds like a backspring pin. And yes, it should go through the other side.

I have the same knife. In hand, I can see it's not a backspring pin. That's a half-inch further forward and drilled properly. What this is, though, beats me. It's a small bar, about 2mm by 4mm by 4mm long, brass. It may be an unorthodox blade stop- mine has a small ding in the blade at that point, and the knife has never been used, just opened.

First, thanks for looking and writing back!:D
Is that small bar connected to both sides?
On mine it appears to be screwed into the left side of the knife (the side without the bullet shield) but does not touch the liner on the opposite side.
Happy Thanksgiving to all

Mine is the same way. Remington did tend to do things their own way, maybe this is a holdover quirk from the old days.

Thanks Sword and Shield for your input.
The bar seems to hold up to the pressure on it when disengaging the lock.
Maybe Remington found it easier to assemble the knife this way.
All the best
Shalom from Israel
