Remington is deeply in debt, and maybe close to bankruptcy. I hope this doesn't hurt Buck.

This is one of those times you wonder if offshore sales are killing another American company.

saw that. they amassed a huge amount of debt...close to a billion. very poorly run.....sure hope buck gets paid through the bankruptcy.

I think it's a case of investors running it into the ground. Freedom arms group owns them and a bunch of other companies.

Your recent pawn shop find is a beautiful knife. It shows what a quality American product can be.

Is it the other way around? Wouldn't Buck be paying Remington? I had the impression Buck was handling marketing and sales, as well as manufacturing..... carrying Remington as a second brand line. What might hurt Buck is the investment in manufacturing capacity (tooling), but then I am only speculating about the business agreement we know nothing about in detail. I expect Remington will emerge from bankruptcy after restructuring.

in guns.....i doubt it. just bad management running the company.

I don't see that Buck has spent any money on tooling. They haven't made any new knives.

They just made some Buck knives and marked them Remington.

Good point but surely there has to be other costs involved for Buck. Is it more of a licensing agreement?

I do not pretend to know.

I just know they haven't made any REAL Remington knives, so there should be no retooling cost.

Buck has some smart folks........maybe they saw this coming.

buck built a small addition -about 40 x 100 feet -onto the northeast side of the plant last year with a line dedicated solely to Remington knives-every line they have in production is full time busy--there was no interrupting any line for Remington--so new line it was---I have no idea what was spent but sure it was more than a couple dollars....

Just buy the Marlins stamped "JM."

:thumbsup::thumbsup: Yep I've been on a Marlin 22 kick the last few years, have about 8 plus a 30/30 and .410. I had the impression Remington/Marlin lever actions were problematic as they had a hard time learning how to make lever actions having let all the experienced Marlin workers go when they moved manufacturing from CT to NY.

I've heard that they're starting to figure it out, but there's still no reason to buy anything other than JM.

The older bolt-action Marlin .22s are near the most, if not the most, accurate American .22s ever produced. Most people don't know that.

I believe the Remington thing is just a restructuring of the company or they borrowed a whole bunch of money for a special project and then file for BR and then they ending up paying back less than they borrowed, just on interest...They're not going anywhere...

Buck retooled, maybe Jeff H can jump in and speak. Better info than pure speculation.

FREEDOM GROUP OWNS Remington ,BushMaster, DPMS and Many others I call BS on this!
its not bs......freedom group is now remington outdoor...so its the old freedom group going into bankruptcy...the whole thing it appears.....remington outdoors has already missed payment on a coupon for their massive debt load. they cant pay their bills.....

https://www.cnbc.com/amp/2018/02/09...o-file-for-bankruptcy-protection-sources.html

they are gathering financing in advance to restructure under bankruptcy. doesnt mean they are gone.....but does mean money coming in and out will be affected under likely chapter 11 bankruptcy.
