Hello. I have a CS Trail master with a stag handle. I don't like the stag handle for general work and this handle has a sort of curve in it that I don't care for. Would it make any sense financially to have the handle changed of would it be best to replace the knife? What kind of handle can you put on it and what kind of price would I be looking at. I think its a carbon five blade and its about 16 years old. excellent condition but for a little discoloration. Thanks.

Edited to add: I didn't realize I was posting in a maker specific forum. I removed my original post because I don't think it's apropriate for me to give advice here. I thought I was in the general discussion forum. I appologize.

Ray your opinion, as are those of any other knife maker are more than welcome here. Share the love and knowledge man! Please shine your light. We can never learn enough around here from knowledgeable folks.

On the answer. I don't know how to price something like that. I've owned one of the knives you speak of but I never saw what lurks under the handle itself. For all I know its a very small tang with very little to work with under there. Sometimes in the past when taking off those type handles you just never know what you will find.

Also, I am not going to be doing much in the way of fixed blade work myself if any at all anymore. The folders are keeping me hopping. I do have some friends that would do that for you though and would love to speak with you about it. Contact my friend Oupa on his forum here at the link below and ask him about it. He may have already worked on one like yours for all I know.

Thanks.

Thanks STR. My advice is that he should just buy a new trailmaster with a regular handle or trade the one he has. I think the stag trailmasters are more valuable than the regular ones and it would be a shame to destroy the stag since they don't make them anymore. Also, the work would probably cost more than a new knife.

Thanks guys. I would hate to destroy the stag handle, I just don't use it much. The new carbon Trailmaster is pretty cheap and would probably be the way to go.
