So I see lots and lots of posts and contests and love for knife models such as the 2, 7, 9, 11, 14 and such, but almost never see or hear the remora mentioned or recommended. Is there a reason for this? Is it the steel?

less popular. lots of us have them, and use them. i keep one in every sheath, and in the kitchen.

then again, i don't talk about my knife use a lot. it's continuous and daily so... everyday :>

heck, i've batoned with one :)

they're cool little scalpels. i like.

I only have one of the free Chinese models from my BK7. I want to try a US one, but I have yet to be sold on it. Is it that much better?

it's much nicer even visually.

now, i'm sure we could argue all day about heat treats, and splitting bricks, and batoning, but in a knife that thin, hollow ground even, it's going to cut.

that's about all there is to it.

it's much more secure feeling than any folder of same size imho

spiffy keen. ideal for kids. or the knife phobe in your family :)

give them your chinese models, buy american models ;>

I gots one. I keep it on my keychain so its super handy.

Each one of my kids has one. They used em last weekend when we were camping and took em to school (!) yesterday for sanctioned pumpkin carnage. My oldest uses hers enough that she's already planning on what to replace it with. Right now it's apparently a tossup between the BK11 and KA-BAR Cutlass machete :D

I need my own. It will be in 2012's knife budget as 2011's got drained somehow.

I didn't know the Remora was that much smaller than the 11/14. I may have to consider picking up a couple for gifts...and one may sneak into my pack.

I want one!!! Mo, srsly, I will be giving 2 or 3 as Christmas gifts, but I don't have one myself :(

and with all those lashing points, it would make a great impromptu spear or extended thingy for slashing at shrubbery.

though honestly, if i lived in bamboo country, spears would be no problem :) but even with regular wood (and ideally some fire), one can make some nifty small animal spears in a hurry. with a remora :>

i've got a couple attached to some firesteels too, so there's always a backup backup backup knife somewhere ;)

"which pocket has a knife?" -- "yes"

No love for the remora? That sucker is saving my butt today. forecast says 10 inches of snow so being a maintenance guy at my job I get called into plow (prob be here till midnight on my day off) and I forgot my Leatherman but the bk13 has stepped up and is slicing open bags of rock salt to fill up my snowex on my dump truck like a tiny bag eating beast. Much love remora , much love...

Very well then. I see the Remora is indeed loved. I guess this means I really will have to buy the WHOLE collection now, won't I? Darn. :D

Yes it does! And the Remora isn't a bad place to start either. I started small and worked up to the BK9. I love 'em all equally ;) but there are a couple that hold a special place.
