Im looking into getting a TOPS Knives MSK for neck/pocket carry and Im curious if the micarta handles come off for cleaning. Also if any of you have owned this blade, how have you liked it?

Doesn't it have screws? Why would there be screws if they coudn't be removed? ;)

It's flared just like on the tops bob...it wasn't designed to be removable, but with patience and allot of wiggling back and forth will come off and go back on...The micarta ones remove allot easier than the g10 version.

Well, there you go. I wonder if you could replace the tube with a chainring bolt that would still let you slide a lanyard through, should you wish, but would allow quicker and easier disassembly? Might be hard to find one that's just the right size, but it would be worth looking into.

Definitely will look into this!

Once you remove it the first time it's easier from then on...you'll experience one of 2 scenarios...1 you'll remove both scales and the tube will remain on the tang, this usually won't effect the flare much if any...2 the tube remains stuck to of scale and will then need pulled thru the tang which will likely mess up the flared end.

Here's an example on one of mine that was less than cooperative.. One side was stuck in the scale like mentioned above and had to be pulled thru the tang.

Side that went thru the tang

Side that pulled off easily.

Either way it doesn't effect function at all,

Also as far as the knife goes it's a sweet lil blade, everyone says it's doesn't have a secondary bevel, but mine came with the same scandi-vex the BOB has. Which works quite well, unless you happen to get one that they messed up on and made to obtuse. One thing to note is the green and black g10 model has a much thicker handle than the micarta version. (Opposite of what they did on the BOB)

The one thing that sux is the sheath. It's ridiculously difficult to draw the knife one handed. The extreme sheath retention and lack of a thumb ramp are to blame for that. thou that can be fixed with a heat gun. The micarta version does draw much much easier out of the package than the g10 model thou.
