Remove a Flipper

I just want to share my recent project.

My Spyderco Domino was wasting space in my pocket. The flipper was rubbing up against my phone and scratching it. I decided, away with the flipper! HAHA.

If a knife has a flipper and an additional opening method, i'd say this is always an option.

So here we are...

Do you have a pic of it open and one of were you did the grinding? Looks great

Yes, James. Thanks for asking. See below:

Pic 1: Transverse view ; focus on forward fingerguard
Pic 2: Slightly isometric ; focus on handle
Pic 3: Transverse, into the blade channel view ; focus on newly ground surface without the flipper
Pic 4: Transverse overall view ; focus on finger guard (check out how much of the edge is so close to the table now; so awesome for slicing!)

Nice mod.

Flipper removal is a delicate and tedious procedure but is worth the work IMHO. ;):D:thumbup:

Cool! That was back when ZT had thumbstuds that were somewhat useful as opening methods. Their flipper detents these days are really stiff!

That's a nice job following the contours and polishing up.

Thank you!

LOL, too true; this one is a wave only opener now as the detent is super strong. I'm happy with it that way though as it shouldn't ever open up unintentionally.;) At least that's what I'm hoping. :D

couldn't you just carry the phone in your other pocket! but its to late for that now,you did a good job with the mod and looks like the knife came this way!the flipper is one of the reason i got the domino, though i also use hole sometimes, but love the fast deployment using its flipper!no fumbling around to get it open, its always there easy to find and vary fast.

Unfortunately, my pocket space is all arranged and occupied. Right pocket holds knife, phone, flashlight from right to left. Left pocket holds Victorinox cadet, wallet, pen from right to left. I don't use my back pockets so as not to sit on my stuff. I appreciate the sentiment though!

The flipping action of the Domino is confirmed to be extremely legit, consistent, satisfying. This was just a compromise for carry-ability. It was fun while it lasted :)
