Ive seen a number of blades with the coating removed on this sub-forum. I have a Brute that I've beat hard for years and still has most of the coating still on it. I'd like to remove it. What is the best way to go about it?--Thanx for your help.--KV

paint stripper or wire wheel.
I've heard from others that the citrus based paint strippers work well.

there are several how tos with pictures already, search a little :)

Ive always used sand paper cause I am cheap... I have more time then money.

i'm going to guess that spray on oven clean might work on this stuff. many people have that.

many people happen to have stripper chemicals too. they're relatively cheap.

some old battery acid would probably work too ;)

use what you go.

So happens I stripped two knives tonight. I could'nt find the citrus stripper at Lowe's so I ended up using a stripper made by Jasco. After soaking for an hour, the TOPS Mil Spie 3 stripped readily with the coating just floating off. The other knife, however, was a Becker Necker and it did'nt strip nearly as easily. I even let it soak another twenty minutes or so and still had to scrape the coating off with another knife. So, my point is that your results may vary. I stripped a BK-7 last year and it was similar to stripping the Necker. So, it's either the finishes or the stripper I've used that makes it a little tougher with the Beckers.

i used this to strip the coating off my bk-2 a few weeks ago: kleanstripgreen.com. no toxic fumes whatsoever even after leaving the knife about 2 hrs in the kitchen...lots of hassle though wearing all the rubber gloves, goggles and whatnot. the best way is to send it to me and i'll return it after 10 years with the finish stripped off :)
