Remove new CS blade coating?

Anyone know or have a suggestion on how to remove this new coating on the CTS-XHP blades?

I think my new MR1 would look more awesome with a steel blade instead of black. (less mall ninja)

I don't think it will easily come off, which is nice but I wish they would offer knives with a stonewash option.

To me, the stonewash finish looks a little cheapish. Similar to galvanized coating on sheet metal ductwork.

Your's is not the only opinion that wants stonewash, though. Is this just a personal preference for something different? Or is there something special about stonewash that I don't know about.

I like a nice polished or bead blasted finish.

Some people gently scrape it of with another knife, others use a caustic stripper/paint remover. You can see knife owners removing the coating on You Tube.

The old finish would scrape off, but the new dlc won't come off that way

bead blast with walnut husks? (protecting the edge, and handle, of course) Shouldn't take more than a couple minutes, so minimum charge at the blasting shop.

I too would like to know what agents would work best to remove the dlc form the Cold Steel xhp blades. The new American Lawman is such a good edc, that I carrying it, my first black blade that I edc. But I d love to remove the dlc. Will check you tube.

The only way to remove the DLC coating is to grind it off using sand paper, which imo is gonna make the knife look ugly as hell, unless you polish it. DLC is made to last and it's bonded with the metal, not painted on. I personally think DLC looks great and will look even better with wears. My XHP Lawman is starting to have micro scratch marks all over the blade after chewing through dozens of boxes and I think it looks great. DLC doesn't wear like cheap teflon coating, and it doesn come off in patches.
To be honest, I really don't get why there is so much negativity towards coated blade. I personally prefer DLC finish above all others. You don't see people getting called "mall ninja" when they drive black cars, why are black knives different?

I've done this. I posted about it here:

If you use automotive wet/dry sandpaper, be ready for a few long sessions of thumb-cramping high pressure sanding sessions. The coating on the new ones is much harder than the old stuff & the sandpaper just slips across it without biting in very much.

I gave it a few hard passes & instantly regretted it. I had scuffed the finish bad enough that I felt I had to finish the job but could tell just how hard it was going to be. I recommend getting the older version with the AUS-8 steel to compliment your black bladed one. The coating on those comes off quick, they polish up easily & can be had for cheap right now.

Somebody stop the CS madness! What is it with these black tactical ninja blades? As an option it is okay, but I want knives without that coating.

(I also want some other colors of G10)

I'd prefer more color options, but what makes them "tactical ninja blades"? Sorry, but adding a coating doesn't make something a ninja blade...hell man, if you look up historical Japanese swords, including ninja swords, I don't think you're gonna find many(translation:not a goddamn one) of them with a black coating...

I agree with you man. I've already popped up supporting the black coating in multiple threads and i still like to say that there should be less prejudice vs coated blade. I understand the lack of options is frustrating and I hope CS can offer multiple finishes just like the upcoming Swift I/II.
I've never seen those who like black coated blade bashing those who like satin/stonewash for loving bling bling stuff(), just like i've never seen those who hard use knives bashing those who thinks knives should only be used to push cut tomato. Maybe some mutual respect can be promoted here.
The term never come up when people drive black car, use black phone or wear black watch so i wonder why the stereotype for black blade.

Anyways, CS's new DLC is awesome, and unfortunately for those who dislike it, it's made specifically to prevent getting scratched off like cheap paint. Super good for DLC lover, super bad for shiny lover. The only good way to DIY remove it is sanding it off. Maybe you can put it on some homemade DIY stonewash machine and make a blackwash finish too. There are guides online showing how to do it, some stones, laundry dryer and some WD-40.

He doen's mean, shussh... real ninjas, deadly dangerous men skilled at silent killing that live in the shadows.

He means "Mall Ninja". You know, strutting bad-asses that publicly flaunt their prowess at disemboweling cardboard boxes.

Actually I m getting used to the idea of carrying a black bladed edc as I continue to put the Lawman in my pocket. That dlc does seem durable. Very fine knife. Still wish it were in stone wash or satin.

They are a little slow at updating their knives from feedback requests but history shows that many popular requests eventually happen :)

Offering an uncoated blade as a standard option on ALL their main folders is looong overdue.

As far as G10 colors and other variants, the more the merrier!

Yeah DLC is def high quality coating, glad that CS went that route for their black blades... With that being said though, there are also many who will always prefer uncoated. Not sure what the hold up is as an uncoated blade should be cheaper to produce than the DLC's anyway, CS has nothing to lose here we're not asking for the moon.
