How To Remove rust from khukri without ruining mirror polish?

pics would help.....or how deep and bad is it? Just surface spotting or pits or..........

If it's already mirror polished, continuing to mirror polish with a buffer will probably remove the rust unless it's deep. I have done this many times to restore a mirror polish that has minor surface rust. Green or pink compound will help.

rust spotting that is surface only.....a pencil eraser works. won't work on pitting or deep rust.

Try Machine oil and a piece of hardwood and rub it off

Thanks. Also can you tell what's the easiest and best method to stop the khukri from rusting? I live in a very humid place

Rust is corrosion or tiny pits in the metal of low chromium steel. A mirror polish is a finish without obvious flaws. I dont think your Khurkri will fail at an 80 grit belt fininsh, or perform much better with a 2000 grit diamond strop!
If you like a flawless finish then seek out good stainless, or learn to to handfinish! Waterstones, sandpaper, diamond paste...
Regularly, and accuratley!!

Flitz works great for surface rust removal. Use a microfiber and test it out. For storage, to prevent rust you can use a beeswax compound, wicked edge sells one that’s blade specific. I’ve also used frog lube.

Thanks.

I don't live in a western country.

Normal beeswax liquid will do? Should I store the blade outside the scabbard after applying beeswax

You won't be doing rust removal without damaging the mirror finish. Sam Wilson and elasmonut 's posts are spot on. If you value the mirror polish get ready to redo it. I don't see the point on a working tool other than to keep it looking good on the shelf until sold and used. Any non stainless needs work to keep it looking beautiful. How much you want it to look good and are willing to put into it is up to you.

Spray WD40 then wipe off with paper towels to remove rust. To prevent rust use gun oil on the blade.

If it’s just a stain, oil and a rag.

If it’s red active rust you need to knock it off.

Do it dry you want the particles to fall /blow away. Rust particles are very abrasive oil will make it stick and cause scratches. I use either a brass scraper made from a flattened spent rifle case, or a pencil. Those flat carpenter pencils are great for this. Sharpen one into a scraper.

After scraping it off, blow it off with compressed air then oil and a rag.

It's really, really, REALLY hard to preserve a mirror polish on a khuk that is used, especially in a humid environment. If it's a show piece, do what the others have suggested and make sure to keep it oiled and don't store it in its scabbard (wood and leather aren't going to do you favors with humidity).

If you are planning on using it, make friends with a dull grey patina. Mirror is for show, patina is for go.

Rub with oil and let it sit overnight. Try wiping it away the next morning. If not, use Mother’s or Flitz polish to buff away. If that doesn’t work, then the rust is deep.
