HI all

Has anyone ever take their Cold Steel folder apart before? How did you to it? I bought a CS Large Vaquero (old model, with no pocket clip) in September 1999. The knife since developed rust on the surface area of the lock bar (inside the handle) as well as on the blade notch where a lock lug fits into. I have never taken this knife to a salt water environment at all. My other folder (CS included) are fine. I have managed to buff off some of the rust in the blade notch, but been unable to reach the lock bar inside the handle. Is there any safe way to dismantle the folder completely so that I an buff off all the remaining surface rust inside? Could you please suggest. I have no exprience in knife making whatsoever. I fax the problem to Colsteel a few weeks ago, and still havn't receive any reply from them. Matt Shade (senoir member) here recon that some of you guys may have take apart your folders before when modifying them.

best regards

Some CS models have a peened pin in the pivot. You drive this out with a punch, and after cleaning and lubricating, you replace it with a pin of the same diameter, and peen it anew. If you have a fastener in the pivot, obviously you just use a fastener remover of the appropriate type instead.

Rust removal in a variety of manners is discussed here:

Hope this helps, Walt

Thank you very much, Walt. will try. gonna be the first time I take a folder apart. But I bought this one at a close out price, so I won't cry if I break it.
