How would i go about getting some deep scratches out of my watch? My grandfather used it during work as a mechanic and although the watch itself is pretty much unharmed, the crystal is pretty beat up. i can still tell the time, but there are many dings and scratches i can feel with my fingers. Not to the point where they stop on it, but i can feel them if i run my fingernail up and down.

I don't know about having scratches repaired, but I know you can have it replaced for not too much. I had mine replaced for $30 when I dropped it face first on the corner of a concrete wall.

If you want to try repairing, they make that stuff for windshields that might work.

I think the first step would be to identify what the crystal is. If you can determine whether it's sapphire, hardlex or something else, then you can google your options. Even if you have to spend $30 like Storl did, you'll probably be happy you did.

In a past life I was a jeweler. Minor scratches can be buffed out with the right wheels and know how. Deep scratches? Best to replace. You may contact Seiko's service center.

I'll post up some pics. I was thinking about the sand paper way, but the finest grit i have here is 800.

Yikes! You will make it worse. I know , I know but trust me on this grasshopper:D If you use sandpaper you won't even be able to see thru it. You need the right felt wheel with a fine white rougue followed by a chamois bare wheel running at about 1700rpm., and enough control not to hit the bezel.

Hard to say from the pic but start by going to a reputable watchmaker. He might be able to buff it out. Like I said if in doubt send it to Seiko and tell them you want the crystal replaced.

That Seiko I think uses the hardlex crystal. It is fairly easily scratched. I love my Seiko diver but it is the only one I own that does not have a saphire crystal, and it is the only one that has gotten scratched up.
My suggestion is to look into having the crystal replaced with a saphire one. Your scratching issues will be a thing of the past.
