Remove second Detent?

What is the purpose of the second detent on Mr. Emersons knives? I have been hearing about how smoothly the 98 commanders and their single detent work and how restrictive the new double detent versions are. It doesn't look like it would be very difficult to inactivate the secondary detent and I am seriously thinking of doing it if it will improve the opening on my commander. Anyone out there ever do exactly what I am thinking of doing? Thanks for your input.

I doubt either detent could be removed, but I could be wrong.

The detent on the non-lock liner is the one that actually does "detent" work....that is, it catches and keeps the blade in the closed position. The detent on the locking side is to keep the metal of the lock from rubbing the blade, it doesn't actually sit in the blade.
