Remove tape glue from bevel?

Lighter fluid, WD-40, Coleman fuel, nail polish remover (acetone)... Any of these will remove the gummy residue quickly.

Go to the pharmacy and get a bottle of 99% isopropyl alcohol. Less potent than acetone and works great for glue residue (and sharpie) when used neat. Dilute it down 9 parts distilled water to 1 part isopropyl alcohol and you have a great glasses cleaner that is great even for anti-reflective coatings.

+1

Alcohol is also great for getting tree sap off a blade, or the paint on your car.

Really? I thought alcohol doesn't work. WD-40 works great and protects against oxidation, so I used that.

Yep, Acetone. It's the least odorous and works quickly. Just don't get any into a finger cut.

I'll second the Goo Gone. That's precisely what it's made for (and it works great for just that purpose). The little bit of oily residue that the Goo Gone leaves behind is easily cleaned up with Windex.

Isopropyl Alcohol works on most tape/label residue, but I've come across some that will just harden/dry up in place after applying the alcohol.

Acetone should work too, but you do have to be more careful with it (it'll mar/melt/damage anything made of plastic).

That's why I like to use lighter fluid. There is no residue at all. And it evaporates so quickly that I've even been able to use it to remove adhesive from paper without leaving any trace. On the other hand, GooGone smells better. :D
