Remove torsion bar for legal purpose?

The only thing that turns me away from Kershaw is that most knives are assisted opening. I Love Kershaw, but seem to carry other knives simply because of the assisted opening, im afraid if a law official sees it, i may get in trouble for carrying switchblade, since it seems most laws around here are so vague that it is up to interperitation.

Does anyone carry a Kershaw with a removed torsion bar? I am thinking of taking it out of my blur (which has a thumbstud).

Quite a few people have posted that they have removed the torsion bar on some models either for legality or dislike.
There are some models I believe that will not function (stay closed) without the though.
I'm sure someone will chime in if they have done it or not.

While you wait, here is something Thomas posted in a current thread about other options that do not have assisted opening.

......... to name a few of the current one hand openers .............:

Kershaw/Ken Onion Collection:
1640 & 1650 Vapor Series
1470 & 1475 Storm Series
ZT 0200 Series

From the Kershaw/Tim Galyean Collection:
1720 & 1720ST JYD's
1725, 1725ST, & 1725CB JYD II's
1750 Lahar

Kershaw/G&G Hawk Collection:
1910 & 1910ST R.A.M.'s
1900, 1900ST, & 1900UCBLK
ZT 0500 M.U.D.D.

Kershaw/Lee Williams Collection:
1740 ENER-G
1745 ENER-G II
(Soon to be released) 1775 OD-1

Kershaw/RJ Martin Collection:
1730 Groove
1730TBLK Tanto Grove
(Soon to be released) 1735 & 1735OR Zing

Kershaw 1760 Skyline
Kershaw 1993-2

Now there are some Limited Editions done up in some of these patterns as well, but the above is regular production.

Hope that helps.

One of the really cool features of the speed safe torsion bar is it actually performs two functions : 1.) (the obvious) it pops and locks the knife open - pretty nice! 2.) (less obviously) it locks the knife closed. More important than it might seem. What's interesting is that you're going to notice that speed safe knives are missing something.
OK - what's your best guess - points for explaining why this is really so sweet.
