I removed the upper hand guard from my Ka-Bar USMC to make it easier to handle. The knife feels so much better now.

I used gun cold blue to cover the "stump".

The only problem is, the knife will not lock into the plastic sheath anymore. The thumb snap keeps it in place, but it rattles. I will try to think of another way to lock it in place.

Did the same thing on a couple of Pilot Survival knives for B.O.B.s. Make the knife much more useful--KV

it's a fighting knife not a carrot chopper

As 100% of my knife use is utility chores and the rest 0% fighting, I decided to perform this travesty. :D

And if you look at the Next Generation KA-BARs, they look just like my customised blade.

You could do what ash says (wouldn't you love a nice leather sheath?) or you can use a good quality glue (JB weld maybe) and just fill in the gap then sand to the right size. That should take up the space that the guard did and stop the rattling.

That sheath looks universal, so it can be carried right or left handed, then why don't you just flip the sheath around so the front guard locks in place not the rear.
