Changing to gold: This is direct from the exchange rules...
"If you are a Gold, Platinum, or Knifemaker member, you need to click on the User CP and select Group Memberships. Make sure that you have selected the appropriate membership group to display on your profile. If you have "Registered User" displayed and you make a For Sale post, you will receive a "Failure to follow the rules" infraction."
