removing an Emerson Wave

I have been eying several models of Emersons, but the problem is that i cannot find the finish and blade styles i like without the wave feature. Having dealt with the wave in the past, i learned that it just gets in the way for me. I don't use it. I like opening my knife manually(you know what i mean). I find it very difficult to take out of my pocket without accidentally opening the knife. Does anyone have any experience with somehow removing them? Maybe grinding them down. Is there a viable way? Or does it just lead to a functional disaster? Does anyone on here do this kinda thing? Or should i just wait however long it takes to find a non-waved model?

to get rid of the wave, just pull the knife up and forward slowly. It wont wave out on you. If all else fails, grip the knife coving the blade to keep it from opening, then pull straight up slowly.

Under the "Makers" section at the top of the page, go to STR's Backyard KnifeWorks. He does what you're inquiring about.

there ya go that would be option 1 to me.

about 1 minute with a dremel will remove the wave if option one wont work for ya, i wouldnt send it off to have that done unless i just couldnt do stuff like that..

if its a black coated blade a quick stroke with a sharpie will get rid of the shiney spot.

Thanks for the responses and info. I just found a relatively new Raven on eBay that fits the bill. I could not be more pleased. Can't wait. Now, i am likely still to buy a Horseman at some point and i will definitely get the wave removed. I know, i know, the best low tech and no nonsense solution is to retrain myself in how i pull my knife out of my pocket. It would just feel better to know i don't have to think about it. Lastly, now i just need to remove the black coating on this blade i just bought. Are there tried and true methods out there? Don't wanna damage the blade. Can i reasonably do this myself, or should i have it done elsewhere. Keep in mind, i do not have any power tools...if that is needed. I don't know. I have done no tinkering up til now, so i am a tinkering newb. Thanks again.

I'd remove the black coating by hand-sanding. It's a slow process, but you're less likely to screw up and you will end up with a great hand-rubbed satin finish. I'm sure you can find more info in Shop Talk.
