I recently purchased a Ka-Bar BK14 as my first "project" knife that I am planning on customizing somewhat. One of the first things I want to do is remove the coating that comes on the blade. Any advice on how to go about doing so and what materials/solvents to use? Thanks!

I used an ordinary paint remover I bought at Ace Hardware. it worked great, I brushed it on and in around 30 minutes the coating pealed right off. just be careful of fumes and the fact that most of these removal products are flammable. good luck, if i can find the can of stuff I used I'll post a picture of it....

Use citristrip! The gel, not the spray. It works great. Used it on my kabar mark 1.
