Removing black oxide coating

what is the best way to remove black oxide coating without scuffing up the blade

What knife do you have?

If it's the thin Kabar/Becker coating, then paint stripper works.

No its the Gerber Prodigy. It seems thick. All I had was acetone so I tried it. Nothing. I then tried to use steel wool on an inconspicuous spot but it only made it fade a little.

I have a Gerber 06 with the same black oxide coating. This method comes up in Google searching the subject more than anything else...

Thanks. I liked the coating before I used the knife, but after the first time I used it to baton through wood it scuffed it and came off in places
