I love my new Al Mar knife, however, one thing continues to bug me -- the big red symbol on the blade. IMHO, it just doesn't go with a fine gentleman's knife. Do you have any idea of the best way to remove it? Should I use a fine steel wool?

take a bit of sandpaper, and go slow but hard which ever way the grain runs. If you don't care about the appearance up close, do it eraser style and it will be done with pretty quik.

The big red symbol is the man's "chop" or essentially, his official signature and cultural heritage...

That aside, removing laser etching will leave unsightly scratches that's impossible to make look good again no matter how much time and fine sandpaper and elbow grease you put into it...

i was gonna write a similar response. the logo is etched rather deep in the steel, so it remains visible. also, renoving this with sandpaper will scratch the blade up. you can improve that some by stepping up to fine sandpaper for finishing it (1200 grit), but it won't be pretty.

personally i don't get it, i usually find AMK's red chop-logo pleasant to look at.....

Al Mar's chop(when he was alive) was his signature and a sign of honor. Lot of history in that name, he was a pioneer in knife design, knife collaborations, specialty cutlery,as well as being a decorated special forces vet.
