Does anyone have experience removing the BT finish from an Emerson? I would like to refinish my non-waved BT CQC-8 to a satin/brushed finish. What's the best grit and type of sandpaper to use.
Thanks,

i agree with usranger, but if ya must ya start out with fairly coarse paper after dissassembly, then go to progressivly finer till ya get it like ya want it, it is not easy though, and takes a while. dont remeber the exact type of paper, but the grit isnt that critical IIRC, just have lots of it lol.

swap it for a satin finish imho.

i have seen pics of some were the coating was removed, varied from a great finish to were the finish looked like someone got after it with paper who didnt have a clue.

also ther is a chemical stripper ya can use, it removes the coating on the older EKI's, dont know if it removes the new coating but figure it would, leaves it kinda flat looking but ya can polish it up after that, seems it would be easier than sanding all the coating off, do a search andf ya might can find the name of the chemical, or post in the gen'l forum and someone will tell ya.

some even leave it like it comes out of the stripper looks kinda funky imho though.

I have one someone used a buffer on... rounded every edge including the sharp one!! I still haven't gotten it right. It may be sent to Emerson with $$ to reset the grind.

Have it bead blasted to have the coating taken off. i did it to my commande, and there are 0 problems.

I second the bead blast option.. should be able to contact any machine /auto shop and inquire about it fairly cheap .. and with sand paper you will most likely not get the satin finish of a good bead blast or sand blast that your wanting. it would look more brushed satin

Update on the CQC7 that was attacked with a buffing wheel- 15.00 and a couple of weeks and this thing is RIGHT!! Grinds are perfect and scary sharp! Best money I have spent in some time... :)
